I have recently become interested in extending the performance of my Fuji S5 pro camera. I was aware that the CCD is 6.3 Mp, but that the camera upscales the image data by roughly 2x by using data from an extra set of photocells. It struck me that this is all very well as long as the computer can read all of the data, otherwise the S5 is no more than a 6.3 Mp camera in a D200 body (admittedly with a better operating system).
I read that the RAW module in Photoshop before 2007 cannot read the extra data and I discovered that my copy of 'Hyper Utility' (Fuji's own RAW software, which is NOT supplied with the camera) was corrupted.
I then stumbled across 'Silkypix', an image developer studio that will read all of the data in a Fuji RAF. I downloaded the trial and reprocessed some images (of which this is an example), tonemapping the 16bit TIFFS in Photomatix and then finishing them off in Photoshop.
When enlarged the improvement in detail and texture is quite easy to see.
I have bought a new copy of Hyper Utility, and as soon as it arrives I will be able to compare the two properly.
